Lee Yong-woo, the legal committee chair of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 14th that "the immediate appeal abandonment by Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung is a clear basis for impeachment."

Lee stated that morning on CBS Radio's "Kim Hyun-jung's News Show" regarding the prosecution's abandonment of the appeal against President Yoon Suk-yeol’s detention cancellation.

He asserted, "Personally, I believe impeachment is necessary. From looking at (Prosecutor General Shim's remarks, it is gradually) becoming tangled. It's self-contradictory and absurd."

He continued, "I define this as a (court’s) one-point release for Yoon Suk-yeol, but the prosecution also has a role in causing this serious situation with its delayed indictments, so it should have contested (the appeal)."

Regarding the Constitutional Court's impeachment ruling date for President Yoon, he stated, "I expect (the ruling) on the morning of the 17th or 18th."

He explained, "The Constitutional Court concluded the arguments for President Yoon's impeachment ruling on the 25th of last month and has not scheduled other cases until the 18th for concentrated deliberation, so it is likely to be held on the 17th and at the latest in the morning of the 18th, with Minister Park Sang-ki's argument scheduled for 2 p.m. on the 18th."

When the host asked, "Why does it seem that the ruling is delayed beyond expectations?" Lee replied, "It seems that they are breaking the longest deliberation record and are gathering opinions one by one on the five grounds for impeachment to build a consensus."

He added, "Unlike the impeachment (ruling) of Lee Jin-sook (the chair of the Korea Communications Commission), where opinions are divided 4:4, they seem to focus on organizing the detailed factual aspects while gathering consensus on the main points."
