On the 20th, People Power Party Representative Kim Ki-hyun aimed at Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, saying, "As a 'midway conservative appeal,' Lee Jae-myung should join the People Power Party."
Representative Kim noted on social media (SNS) that Lee's so-called 'midway conservative party' declaration included absurd remarks akin to "a thief in the night" which left the entire nation bewildered.
He said, "Just a few days ago, the Democratic Party presented a leftist populism supplementary budget distributing cash to the entire nation, and now they suddenly talk about 'midway conservatism'; it seems they must be really anxious about their stagnating approval ratings."
Previously, on the 18th, Lee appeared on the YouTube channel "New Day" and stated, "We are not progressive; we have a midway and conservative position." The next day, he also said, "The Democratic Party is not originally a progressive party. It is a midway and conservative party that values growth," which sparked an 'identity controversy' both inside and outside the Democratic Party.
Representative Kim criticized Lee's comments as "nonsense that even a six-year-old kid would scoff at," asking, "Who on earth thinks that someone like Lee, who has been surrounded by extreme leftist populism and has been causing divisions, is a midway conservative?"
He further stated, "It is no different from selling the ancestral land that has been kept in the family for generations just for one's own living," adding, "Is it any different from yelling at family members to change their thoughts overnight or throwing away the family motto that has been preserved for generations?"
Representative Kim continued, "There's no way the public will be deceived by Lee's obvious wool over their eyes; however, if he truly means what he says, I would welcome it wholeheartedly. Thus, I respectfully request that he join the People Power Party, the only midway conservative party in Korea."
