LG Uplus announced on the 24th that it will launch the 'self-service activation for foreigners' service, the first of its kind in the budget mobile industry, to help foreign customers easily and quickly sign up for budget mobile services.

The self-service activation for foreigners allows foreign customers to easily activate their services using a curated plan without having to call a consultant. It is available on LG Uplus's official budget mobile online mall, 'Al-dot (budgetmobile.com).' 'Al-dot' is a platform that supports online activation in just five minutes, from comparing U+ budget mobile plans to signing up and activation without any face-to-face interactions.

Previously, foreign customers had to visit an offline store that supports budget mobile services or go through a currency call with a consultant to activate their budget phone. This often resulted in inconveniences due to language barriers, leading to difficulties and significant time delays.

To address these inconveniences, LG Uplus has newly introduced a self-service activation page specifically for foreign customers on 'Al-dot.' To overcome language barriers, guides are provided in five languages—Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Russian, and English—in line with the countries of origin of the foreign residents in Korea.

A curation feature has also been introduced to improve the convenience for foreign customers. Foreign customers can use the curation feature to receive recommendations for plans that fit their usage patterns and discover promotional plans, enabling them to search for and sign up for budget mobile products that suit their needs.

In line with the launch of the new services on Al-dot, LG Uplus has also prepared activation benefits for foreign customers. During March, foreign customers who sign up for budget mobile plans through 'Al-dot' will receive additional gifts (worth up to 83,000 won) provided to all budget mobile subscribers, including a Baskin-Robbins pint (9,800 won).

'Al-dot' will also newly introduce a self-service activation service for minors alongside the service for foreigners. Previously, minor customers had to visit offline stores with complicated documents to activate their budget phones, but now, through logging in with a parent's account, they can verify the legal guardian relationship and activate budget mobile services easily and quickly without needing to submit separate documents.

LG Uplus plans to continue updating Al-dot to ensure budget mobile customers do not experience inconveniences while using the service. In particular, it is also considering adding a feature that automatically translates the entire Al-dot page into foreign languages to enhance convenience for foreign customers.

Hong Ju-young, head of the LG Uplus CSS Development Lab, noted, "By introducing self-service activation services for foreigners and customers, we have made it easier for the growing number of foreigners residing in Korea to access communication services. In the future, we will continue to strive for challenges and changes to ensure that budget mobile users can utilize activation services more conveniently."
