The Korea Communications Commission announced on the 24th that it will hold the '2025 Verification Agency Designation Review Briefing' on the 28th. The verification agency is an institution that verifies identity using alternative methods such as Internet Personal Identification Number (i-PIN), mobile phone, credit card, and certificate rather than resident registration numbers under the 'Act on the Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.'
This year, information will be provided on the review schedule and procedures, preparation requirements for the review, and key details regarding the announcement for businesses wishing to be designated as verification agencies.
Businesses wishing to participate can attend without prior application, and after the briefing, a survey regarding the demand for the review will be conducted through the completion of the '2025 Verification Agency Designation Review Demand Survey.'
Businesses wishing to be designated as verification agencies must submit application documents such as the business plan to the Korea Communications Commission from May 1 to 2, and the final decision regarding designation is expected to be made in August after document review and on-site inspections.
Shin Young-kyu, head of the Communication Users Policy Bureau, noted, 'As demand for identity verification services online continues to grow with the increase in non-face-to-face transactions and activation of various online platform services, we will strictly review to ensure that verification agencies comply with personal information protection while providing safe services.'
