Consumers have won partial compensation of 200,000 won for each individual in a damages lawsuit against LG Electronics, claiming exaggerated advertising of its clothing dryer products.

According to the industry on the 17th, the Seoul High Court Civil Division 19-1 (Director General Hwang Seung-tae, Kim Yu-kyung, and Son Cheol-woo) recently ruled in favor of 221 out of 319 plaintiffs, ordering the company to pay damages. Among them, the case of 196 individuals was finalized as the company did not appeal. The amount of damages is the same as in the first trial.

Consumers who purchased the dryer from 2017 to 2019 claimed 1 million won per person for property damage and damages, stating that the condenser self-cleaning function only operated under certain conditions, contrary to the advertisement. Both the first and second trials did not recognize property damage, as it was deemed difficult to see any considerable limitation on the main functions or distinctive qualities compared to other dryers. Only mental anguish related to the advertisement was acknowledged.

LG Electronics noted, "It has been reaffirmed that there are no defects in the dryer," adding, "We plan to seek the Supreme Court's judgment on some legal interpretations."
