SK Telecom's artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, announced earlier this year at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, received attention in a report by global market research firm Omdia. Omdia analyzed that SK Telecom's AI infrastructure business, AI software service 'Astar,' and Global Telco AI Alliance (GTAA) large language model (LLM) will be new revenue generation opportunities.

SK Telecom is establishing AI data centers (AI DC), GPU cloud services (GPUaaS), and edge AI through its 'AI Infrastructure Super Highway' strategy. At MWC 2025, it announced an expanded 'AI Pyramid Strategy 2.0,' which was subdivided into AI DC, B2B AI services, and B2C AI services.

The report mentioned achievements in building AI data centers, cooperation with SK hynix and Penguin Solutions, and a $200 million strategic investment. In the GPUaaS sector, it highlighted the launch of cloud services based on NVIDIA GPUs, while in the edge AI field, it focused on developing 5G-based healthcare, robotics, and CCTV security technologies.

As for AI software services, A. secured 5.6 million users in 2023, and the overseas market-targeted 'Searo' is evaluated to have significant potential to evolve beyond AI assistants into subscription services, e-commerce integration, and licensing models.

The multilingual support telecommunications company-specific LLM development project of GTAA also gained attention. SK Telecom is collaborating with Deutsche Telekom, SoftBank, and others to develop AI models supporting Korean, English, German, and Arabic, which will be utilized in customer service and AI assistant services.
