OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has introduced a platform for building artificial intelligence (AI) agents that autonomously perform specific tasks.

OpenAI said on the 11th (local time) that it will launch the AI agent building platform 'Responses API,' which allows corporations to create AI bots that perform tasks such as financial analysis or customer service. The Responses API is a new tool that helps developers and corporations independently build AI agents that perform tasks using OpenAI models and more. This tool supports corporations in developing customized AI agents that can perform web searches, scan company files, and navigate websites.

Brad Lightcap, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of OpenAI, noted, "Now people can interact with AI agents," adding, "These agents can reference files, search the web, and use computers." Currently, there are 2 million paid corporate clients using the ChatGPT Team, Enterprise, and Edu, and OpenAI plans to operate this platform on a paid basis.

The launch of this platform by OpenAI comes as competition in the AI agent market intensifies. Recently, the Chinese AI startup Monika has garnered attention online by unveiling an AI agent called 'Manus.' The startup claimed that Manus demonstrated the ability to think independently, plan, and perform complex tasks to deliver perfect results. They also anticipate Manus as the 'second DeepSeek,' claiming to have surpassed OpenAI models in AI agent validation tests.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that AI agent technology has emerged as a new wave of innovation in the AI industry since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022. Sam Altman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OpenAI, also remarked that this year is the year "AI agents are fully integrated into work."

In response, OpenAI introduced the AI agent 'Operator' in January that can browse the internet to purchase groceries or prepare expense reports and unveiled 'Deep Research' in February, capable of conducting complex research tasks online. Additionally, OpenAI is expected to release an AI agent with doctoral-level capabilities, costing several tens of millions of won per month.
