SK Telecom, KT, LG Uplus, and other telecommunications companies announced on the 11th that they have introduced a mobile driver's license and resident registration verification service through the PASS app at Yonsei University's Yongin Severance Hospital, led by Director Kim Eun-kyung.

With the amendment of the National Health Insurance Act in May last year, identity verification became mandatory at hospitals, requiring hospital staff to manually check patients' physical identification cards or mobile identification verification services.

With the introduction of this service, Yongin Severance Hospital will enable simple identity verification through the PASS app. During registration, treatment, and payment, patients can generate a verification QR code within the PASS app and scan it at a kiosk, sending their name, resident registration number, and phone number to the hospital.

The information entered will be securely transmitted to Yongin Severance Hospital through NICE Information Communication, the No. 1 payment value-added network (VAN) provider in Korea. NICE Information Communication is the first VAN company to collaborate with the three major telecommunications companies to provide more convenient and reliable customer identity verification services in medical institutions.

Users can also pre-install the PASS identity verification service widget on their mobile phone home screen and simply click the widget to display the PASS identity verification QR code screen when needed.

Yongin Severance Hospital is the first in Korea to apply the QR scan method for identity verification using the PASS mobile identification verification service. The QR scan method can reduce errors from manually entering personal information and increase the efficiency of hospital staff.

Previously, the three telecommunications companies applied the PASS mobile identification verification service via QR codes to more than 3,600 community service centers nationwide in December last year. When a customer generates a verification QR code in the PASS app and the community service center staff scans it with a scanner, their name, date of birth, and gender information are transmitted to the community service center.

PASS users can now easily authenticate their identity without having to carry a physical identification card when processing civil affairs. Administrative institutions have also utilized this to prevent fraudulent benefits and enhance work efficiency.

Additionally, the PASS mobile identification verification service can be utilized in various public sectors, including police driver's license verification, public election polling places, and domestic airline boarding procedures, as well as in convenience stores, movie theaters, and rental cars for identity and age verification.

The telecommunications companies noted, "Starting with the case of Yongin Severance Hospital, we plan to continuously expand the use of the PASS mobile identification verification service to major hospitals and clinics across the nation, as well as to the commerce and institutional sectors. We will lead the way in establishing a safer and more efficient identity verification system as a lifestyle-oriented identification app."
