Former XL Games representative Song Jae-kyung has joined the blockchain foundation "Open Game Foundation" (OGF) established by NCSOFT representative Jang Hyun-guk.
Representative Jang said on the platform X (formerly Twitter) on the 10th, "A legend of the Korean gaming industry and a pioneer of global online gaming has joined OGF," officially announcing the recruitment of former representative Song.
OGF is a blockchain foundation founded last month in Zug, Switzerland, after Representative Jang moved from Wemade to NCSOFT, aiming to merge gaming and blockchain technology.
Representative Jang noted, "Former Representative Song will begin an innovative challenge that integrates AI and blockchain into gaming," adding, "Just as he opened the era of online gaming 30 years ago, we will create a new chapter together once again."
Former Representative Song co-founded Nexon and participated in the development of "The Land of Wind," later creating "Lineage" at NCSOFT and being called the "father of Lineage." After founding XL Games in 2003, he developed "ArcheAge," "ArcheAge: War," and others.
He stepped down as the head of XL Games in 2023 but has been leading the development of the next project "ArcheAge: Chronicle" as a director; however, he left the company earlier this year.
Representative Jang expressed excitement, saying, "I first met him 29 years ago and have hoped to work together again one day."
