LG Electronics completed the expansion of four research buildings at LG Science Park in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, on 3rd.
The number of LG Electronics research buildings at LG Science Park has increased to 10 (W1~W10). Approximately 10,000 domestic research and development personnel will gather to create synergy as a global research and development control tower. The total floor area of LG Electronics' research buildings is 125,000 pyeong, and by site, it covers 21,000 pyeong, making it the largest single-company research and development center in Seoul.
Beginning with the last Lunar New Year holiday, over 2,000 research Institute employees working at Seocho R&D Campus, Yangjae R&D Campus, and Gasan R&D Campus have started to sequentially relocate to the new research building at LG Science Park.
Most of the research and development personnel from the Chief Technology Officer division, which leads advanced technology research and development, and four business sectors (HS·MS·VS·ES) will gather at LG Science Park to work. LG Electronics plans to strengthen its research and development capabilities to lead the local product development of 23 overseas research institutes and to carry out headquarters-led research and development projects through LG Science Park. About 1,000 research Institute employees who had been working at the existing LG Science Park will also move to the new research building.
LG Electronics has also expanded the 'LG Electronics Magok Childcare Center' with a capacity of 100 to alleviate childcare difficulties faced by employees relocating to the new research building. Including the existing workplace childcare centers, the size of childcare centers within LG Science Park has increased to accommodate approximately 460 children.
LG Electronics has also established a safety experience center for employees within the research building. The goal is to allow researchers to virtually experience potential safety accidents that could occur in laboratories, thereby preventing safety incidents and minimizing damage in case of emergencies. The safety experience center plans to operate a total of 18 safety-related experience contents, including fire evacuation, goggle performance, safety shoe impact, and chemical reactions.
Meanwhile, with this expansion, the total number of research buildings at LG Science Park has increased from 22 to 26. LG Science Park covers an area of approximately 170,000 square meters (about 54,000 pyeong), equivalent to the size of 24 soccer fields, making it the largest convergence research complex in the country. Over 25,000 employees work there, including R&D organizations from subsidiaries such as LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Innotek, LG Chem, LG Energy Solution, and LG H&H, as well as partner companies and startups.
