Naver has introduced 'passkey login,' which allows users to log in using facial and fingerprint recognition instead of passwords.

According to the technology information (IT) industry on the 30th, Naver recently launched 'passkey login' that allows users to log into their accounts using facial or fingerprint recognition instead of entering a password as part of its effort to enhance personal information protection. Passkey login has been prioritized for application on PC and mobile web, while development is underway for the Naver application (app) with a goal for implementation in the first half of the year.

The passkey login, which enhances user convenience and security, is noted for its major advantage of enabling account login within seconds using the biometric information of individuals registered on devices previously used. It eliminates failures in login due to typos in passwords and removes the need to remember complicated passwords. The use of unique biometric information instead of passwords, which are at risk of exposure, also increases security.

Naver is also focusing on advanced technologies to prevent account theft. They provide features such as a login blocking function that requires personal verification information when a login attempt occurs overseas, a notification feature that immediately informs users of a login occurrence in new devices and environments, and two-factor authentication that completes login only when approved using a pre-designated device.

Meanwhile, Naver has introduced and is operating the 'PER' (Privacy Enhancement Reward) system, the first of its kind in the country, which rewards users who report vulnerabilities or improvement points related to personal information protection discovered while using its services. In the previous year alone, a total of 268 reports were received, and 91 rewards were issued, marking the highest number of reports and rewards ever recorded. The number of reports increased by 31% compared to the previous year, and the number of rewards also rose by 11%.

A Naver official said, 'The next-generation login method of passkeys has established itself as a global trend,' and 'We will continue to strive to ensure that many users can log in conveniently and safely.'
