The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) announced on the 24th that it has released the results of its analysis of cyber threat trends for the second half of 2024.

In the past two years, the number of security incidents increased by approximately 48% from 1,277 cases in 2023 to 1,887 cases in 2024.

In particular, there was a significant increase in server hacking (553 cases) and other types, including information leaks, spam text messages, and email dispatches (180 cases).

The number of ransomware infections was 195 cases, a decrease of approximately 24% compared to the previous year; however, medium-sized and small enterprises, which struggle to invest in security compared to large corporations, accounted for 94% of the total cases.

The sectors most affected were the information and communication fields, which accounted for the highest proportion with 601 cases. Associations and organizations, as well as repair and other personal service industries, which have relatively weak security management, saw an increase of about 66% to 121 cases compared to the previous year.
