A magnitude 4.5 earthquake (according to the U.S. Geological Survey, China reported a magnitude of 4.2) occurred early on the 26th near Beijing, China.

According to state-run China Central Television (CCTV) on that day, the earthquake struck at 1:21 a.m. (local time) in Yongqing County, Langfang City, Hebei Province, 55 kilometers south of Beijing (39.42 degrees north latitude, 116.60 degrees east longitude). The depth of the epicenter was 20 kilometers.

A magnitude 2.9 aftershock occurred in Yongqing County (39.42 degrees north latitude, 116.57 degrees east longitude) four minutes later at 1:25 a.m. The depth of the epicenter was 15 kilometers. No casualties have been reported so far.

Just 7.5 seconds after the first earthquake occurred, China's earthquake early warning system issued a warning, and the China Earthquake Administration began its response. More than 250,000 people received earthquake alerts on their mobile phones.

The earthquake was even felt in Beijing. On Weibo, China's largest social media platform, 'Hebei Langfang magnitude 4.2, 2.9 earthquake' is currently trending as the top search term. Comments such as 'I woke up from sleep in Beijing because of the earthquake. It lasted for 2 to 3 seconds, and the bed shook violently,' and 'I thought someone was shaking the chair' are being posted.
