The giant panda "Fubao," which has received a lot of love in Korea and returned to China, will be unveiled to visitors at the Chengdu Panda Base in Sichuan Province after 4 months.
The China Panda Protection Research Center noted through social media on the 24th that "Fubao will meet you on the 25th. We are looking forward to it," along with a video about Fubao's current state, lasting about 1 minute.
The video showed Fubao's recent and past appearances. The recent footage, lasting 15 seconds, captured Fubao eating. The center stated in a format addressing viewers, "After resting for over 100 days and stabilizing, I will be at the nursery building No. 2 to meet you."
This will be Fubao's first public appearance since December 3rd of last year, when it showed unusual signs such as convulsions and was isolated for nearly 4 months. The center explained in the video, mentioning the situation at that time, "Since showing unusual tremors on December 3rd, Fubao has been receiving careful care from veterinarians and keepers in a non-exhibition area."
It continued, "We conducted thorough examinations, customized treatments, and provided special care during Fubao's estrus period and joint diagnoses from experts," and concluded, "I feel that my health has greatly improved."
Earlier, on December 3rd last year, the Wolong Giant Panda Base in Sichuan Province, where Fubao resides, announced on social media that "Fubao is showing unusual signs and is under close observation."
The base did not disclose what the unusual signs were at the time. Many videos were posted on social media showing Fubao appearing to tremble and convulse while eating bamboo shoots, leading to the hashtag "Fubao trembled."
Fubao was born on July 20, 2020, between pandas "Rubao" and "Aibao", which were sent as a symbol of Korea-China friendship by Chinese President Xi Jinping in March 2016. Since then, Fubao has lived in Yongin Everland, receiving much love and nicknamed "Yongin Fushi," "Princess Fu," and "Futuntun."
According to an agreement that giant pandas born overseas must return to China before turning 4 years old, Fubao was returned to China on April 3rd last year, 1,354 days after its birth. After the return, when suspicions arose that Fubao was receiving poor treatment in China, authorities released rebuttal statements or published videos of Fubao.
