A first edition of the Harry Potter series, which was found in a pile of junk, was sold for 38 million won.

According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on the 9th (local time), a first edition hardcover of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone fetched a hammer price of over £21,000 (about 38 million won) at the 'NLB Auctions' the day before.

The title of the first Harry Potter book is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, but it was changed to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone when published in the United States. Only 500 copies of the first edition hardcover of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone were published in 1997.

The BBC reported that Daniel Pierce, who operates the auction house, found the book among the belongings of a man who recently passed away in the British region of Brixham. At the time of discovery, the book was in a pile of discarded junk.

Pierce noted to the BBC that the book auctioned this time appears to be one of the 300 copies distributed to libraries out of the 500 first editions. He emphasized that it was indeed a good price for a hardcover first edition.
