On the 29th (local time), the Russian State Duma decided to request an investigation from the United States Congress and the United Nations regarding allegations that the U.S. government was preparing an assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This allegation was raised by conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News host, and has not been verified.
According to TASS, the Russian State Duma issued a statement that day stating, "In connection with U.S. journalist Tucker Carlson's revelation that the Biden administration is preparing to assassinate President Putin, it will request an investigation from the U.S. Congress and the United Nations."
Earlier, on the 27th, Carlson stated on his podcast, "The Biden administration tried to kill Putin," adding, "Why did they do that? Because chaos is a shield that protects them." Carlson did not provide evidence to support his claims.
Carlson, who is pro-Trump and pro-Putin, closely covered the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean Chairman Kim Jong Un at Panmunjom in June 2019. After Trump lost the election the following year, Carlson raised the possibility of ballot manipulation and was sued by Dominion Voting Systems. He received a ruling to pay a large sum in damages and was fired from Fox News in April 2023. He interviewed President Putin in Moscow, Russia, last February.
