Hyosung announced on the 31st that it is enhancing production efficiency by establishing big-data-based smart factories at its business sites both domestically and internationally.
Hyosung has established smart factories at its business sites in seven global spandex plants in China (Quzhou, Jiaxing, Guangdong, Zhuhai), Vietnam (Dong Nai), Brazil, Turkey, as well as at its subsidiary Hyosung TNC’s Gumi plant and Hyosung Chemical’s Yongyeon plant.

Through smart factories, the company collects and analyzes data on product status and facility conditions across the entire process from raw material import, production, to shipment, managing real-time production status and quality detection risks, according to the company.
Hyosung has been collecting essential big data for establishing smart factories on-site to understand customer demands and market conditions, as well as analyzing purchasing patterns.
It is a situation where the voices of customers collected from 34 manufacturing corporations and 66 trading corporations and offices in 27 countries around the world are being database-fied, allowing for real-time checking of market status, technical information, customer complaints, and response status.
As a subsidiary, Hyosung TNC operates its spandex plants in China and Vietnam as smart factories. The Changwon plant is also established as an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart factory, accelerating its digital transformation (DX).
The Hyosung TNC Changwon plant is utilizing real-time information about work plans that change based on the situation of different processes and workers, applying it to quality, process, and facility management. Hyosung Chemical has established a system for real-time connection of all manufacturing-related resources to make decisions based on the collected data.
In the case of Hyosung Heavy Industries, it is integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology not only in facility investment but also in the product and institutional sector. Examples of notable outcomes include the AI-based asset management system 'ARMOUR+', augmented reality inspection equipment, and 200 megawatt (MW) voltage-type high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission.
A representative from Hyosung noted, "Hyosung is a global corporation where exports account for 80% of sales," and added, "To produce products with stable quality at overseas production bases and maximize production efficiency, establishing smart factories is essential."
