Hyundai Motor Group held a developer conference ‘Pleos 25’ on the 28th at Seoul Coex and unveiled ‘Pleos,’ a mobility software brand and technology platform.
Pleos can be seen as a single platform that integrates the management of everything from high-performance chips and controllers to vehicle operating systems, infotainment platforms, cloud infrastructure, and vehicle control and operation solutions, as well as mobility and logistics optimization systems.
Pleos is a compound word of the Latin ‘Pleo,’ meaning more, and ‘OS,’ the abbreviation for operating system, and it represents Hyundai Motor Group's vision to transform into a software-centric mobility tech corporations.
Pleos focuses on the vehicle control operating system ‘Pleos Vehicle OS’ and the next-generation infotainment system ‘Pleos Connect’ as major components of the software-defined vehicle (SDV).
Hyundai Motor Group plans to gradually apply Pleos starting with new models scheduled to be released in the second quarter of next year. By 2030, they aim to equip around 20 million vehicles with it.
On this day, Hyundai Motor Group also announced a roadmap to adopt Level 2+ autonomous driving by the end of 2027. They plan to continuously enhance the efficiency and performance of camera, radar-based recognition, and artificial intelligence (AI) deep learning decision-making structures.
They also unveiled an open ecosystem platform ‘Pleos Playground’ that allows anyone to freely develop and distribute vehicle applications (apps).
Through Pleos Playground, Hyundai Motor Group provides software development kit (SDK) documentation, sample code, development support tools, and an environment where applications can be developed and tested without an actual vehicle.
