On the 20th, Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it aims to create a future-oriented shipyard that can operate 24 hours by combining automation and artificial intelligence (AI).
Samsung Heavy Industries held its 51st regular shareholders' meeting on the same day at the Pangyo Research and Development Center in Bundang, Seongnam, approving five agenda items, including the appointment of Sang-Kyu Kim, chairman of the Korea Procurement Institute, as an outside director and audit committee member, and Kyung-Hee Kim, vice president (head of management support), as an inside director. At the meeting, 58.7% of the voting shares, amounting to 828,377,868 shares, were represented.
Choi Seong-An, CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries, stated in his opening remarks, "We will accelerate smart manufacturing innovation," adding, "We aim to create a groundbreaking automation process model based on data for a future-oriented shipyard capable of operating 24 hours."
He continued, "To secure leadership in eco-friendly ships and autonomous navigation technology, we will expedite the application of ships equipped with carbon capture facilities and the commercialization of completely autonomous navigation solutions," and stated, "We will prepare to establish a business model that spans both maritime and land and to become a 'technology-driven corporation' that lasts for 100 years."
The CEO set this year's order target for Samsung Heavy Industries at $9.8 billion (approximately 14.3 trillion won). The sales target for this year is set at 10.5 trillion won, and the operating profit target is 630 billion won.
