Volvo's electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) "EX30," launched last month, is aiming to expand its market share by highlighting its price competitiveness.

According to Volvo, the EX30 has seen over 16,000 test drive applications since its launch last month. The initial batch of 500 units is sold out.

It is evaluated that the lower price range compared to other import cars in the same class leads to competitiveness. Volvo has set the domestic selling price at over 20 million won lower than the lowest prices in major markets such as Sweden, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

The EX30 is actually more than 15 million won cheaper compared to entry-level electric SUV models from import brands such as Mercedes-Benz EQA, BMW iX1, and Audi Q4 e-tron.

The EX30 boasts high space utilization relative to its body, dynamic driving performance, state-of-the-art safety specifications, and a premium sound system. The EX30 has a wheelbase of 2,650 mm and a length of 4,235 mm, securing a high space ratio (62.6%) for its class.

The EX30 has a maximum output of 272 horsepower, and its 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time is 5.3 seconds. This is faster than the Tesla Model Y RWD (6.9 seconds), Audi Q4 e-tron (8.5 seconds), and BMW iX1 xLine (5.6 seconds).

The EX30 has introduced Volvo's new standard safety technology. To prevent accidents caused by distractions and drowsy driving, a sensor at the top of the steering wheel detects the driver's movements and automatically sends warnings. Basic features include door open alerts, lane departure mitigation, hill descent control, and blind spot warnings.

The Harman Kardon premium soundbar is also one of its highlights. The soundbar in the front for both the driver and passenger seats is equipped with a premium sound tweeter and five mid-range speakers, while two full-range speakers are installed in the back door.

The EX30 has a driving range of 351 km under the Ministry of Environment's certified composite standard per charge, but Volvo states that the actual range exceeds 400 km. It can be charged from 10% to 80% in about 28 minutes using a maximum of 153 kilowatts (kW) of fast (DC) charging.

The EX30 is offered in two trims, Core and Ultra, depending on convenience specifications. The selling price for the Core trim is 47.55 million won, while the Ultra trim is priced at 51.83 million won. With the application of government and local subsidies for electric vehicles, it can be purchased for just over 40 million won depending on the trim.
