Eastar Jet will reform its cabin crew recruitment process. To focus on the essential role of in-flight safety personnel, it has decided to introduce a physical fitness test.
Eastar Jet noted on the 18th that, starting from the public recruitment in the first half of the year, it will add a physical fitness test and a situational response interview to the cabin crew selection process.
The recruitment process will change from ‘document evaluation → practical interview → executive interview → pre-employment medical examination’ to ‘document evaluation → situational response interview → physical fitness test and executive interview → pre-employment medical examination.’
In the document evaluation stage, the pass rate for candidates will be increased to about twice the existing rate. The situational response interview will evaluate candidates' ability to respond to various situations, collaboration skills, and flexible thinking through role-playing.
The most significant change is the introduction of the physical fitness test. This procedure aims to verify the physical abilities necessary for ensuring in-flight safety tasks such as subduing unruly passengers and directing emergency evacuations. It will measure abilities such as sit-ups, long-distance running, high jumps, Arm Reach (the maximum length one can reach with one hand while standing on the toes), and voice decibels, in collaboration with a specialized physical fitness verification organization.
Eastar Jet formed a Task Force (TF) last year to begin the reform of its recruitment procedures. The aim is to improve the perception that cabin crew members are selected based solely on their appearance.
Eastar Jet stated, “We will rigorously verify essential competencies as in-flight safety personnel, such as basic physical fitness, ability to respond to abnormal situations, responsibility, and collaborative spirit.”
To enhance the convenience of crew activities, Eastar Jet previously changed its regulations to allow the wearing of cardigans instead of uniform jackets starting this year. Eastar Jet also plans to gradually change the uniform design to more comfortable attire for working on board.
