Hyundai Motor's compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) Kona has surpassed cumulative global sales of 2 million units after 8 years since its launch. The proportion of overseas sales approached 90%.

Hyundai Motor noted on the 30th that after its launch in June 2017, global Kona sales (including internal combustion engine, hybrid, and electric vehicles) totaled 2,001,320 units as of December last year.

Regionally, the proportion of overseas sales reached 88.4% (1.77 million units). The sales ratio in advanced markets was high, with 664,162 units in Europe and 512,020 units in the United States.

By fuel type, sales were 1.36 million units for internal combustion engines, 380,000 units for electric vehicles, and 250,000 units for hybrids. Hyundai Motor has been promoting the electrification transition, launching the electric vehicle model Kona Electric in 2018, and introducing the Kona Hybrid model in 2019. In 2021, the high-performance model Kona N was released.
