The number of lawsuits related disclosures from KOSPI market listed corporations was recorded at 419 in the previous year. This is an increase of 58.1% (154 cases) compared to 265 cases in 2023. During the same period, disclosures related to investment activities by corporations, including acquisition and disposal of shares in other companies, acquisition and disposal of tangible assets, and new facility investment, all increased.
The Korea Exchange announced on the 14th the '2024 Securities Market Disclosure Performance' containing this information. The total number of disclosures from KOSPI market listed corporations last year was 25,297, which is an increase of 17.5% (3,768 cases) compared to 2023.
By type of disclosure, the number of current disclosures increased from 15,322 in 2023 to 17,046 in 2024, a rise of 11.3% (1,724 cases). This appears to be the result of corporations actively disclosing information related to their investment or management activities.
The number of voluntary disclosures rose from 1,391 cases in 2023 to 1,621 cases in 2024, an increase of 16.5% (230 cases). Among voluntary disclosures, the increase in disclosures addressing rumors and news (35%·69 cases) was notable. The exchange interpreted this as a result of a strengthened willingness among corporations to provide information. Besides this, 205 companies disclosed sustainability management reports related to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, and 86 companies disclosed plans to enhance corporate value related to value-up programs.
Last year, the number of fair disclosures was 1,742, and the number of inquiries was 58. English disclosures increased from 3,053 in 2023 to 4,830 in 2024, a rise of 58.2% (1,777 cases). The number of listed companies submitting English disclosures also increased from 175 to 248, a 41.7% (73 cases) rise. This appears to be influenced by the phased mandatory implementation of English disclosures.
The number of designations for corporations with insincere disclosures was 34, which is fewer than the 35 cases in 2023. Among these, failure to disclose was the most common at 27 cases, followed by 7 cases of disclosure repetition and 2 cases of disclosure changes. By reason for designation of insincere disclosure corporations, lawsuits accounted for the most at 9 cases, followed by changes in revenue or profit structure of more than 30% at 4 cases, and disclosures regarding the acquisition and disposal of shares in other companies at 4 cases.
The exchange stated that it will continue to support KOSPI market listed corporations in actively engaging in disclosures. An exchange official noted, "We will enhance the disclosure capabilities of listed companies through regular disclosure training, thereby increasing market trust."
