(Following interview ①) 'Revelations' star Ryu Jun-yeol expressed his admiration for director Yeon Sang-ho.

On the morning of the 26th, an interview with 'Revelations' lead actor Ryu Jun-yeol was held at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.

'Revelations' depicts a story where a pastor believes punishing the culprit of a disappearance case is a divine revelation, and a detective assigned to the disappearance case, tormented by the spirit of a deceased sibling, follows their respective beliefs.

Earlier, director Yeon Sang-ho described Ryu Jun-yeol as “an actor who had many questions on set.” When Ryu Jun-yeol asked, “What questions did I ask?” he replied, “I want to say from head to toe. From the early stages of the script, I have many doubts, like a 'Question Mark Killer,’ regarding the character's journey, relationships, and where the story should go. I continually check to confirm if it's right, and even what I believe to be correct, I reconsider. I believe that the more questions there are, the better the work. At the moment I think something is right, I can get deceived by the atmosphere and feelings, and I push forward. It may feel comfortable and refreshing at the time, but I regret it after completing the work. So even if it is painful and hard, I think we should keep questioning and pondering what leads the work in a better direction.

He continued by expressing admiration for director Yeon Sang-ho, noting, 'Before working on the piece, I had heard from many people that he films with speed and rationality, so I was most worried about missing something. However, just like he said, “There is not a single question that should be discarded,” he really listened to my queries. He answered all questions sincerely, making him a trustworthy director. I think he was a captain who could listen to the stories of the crew and make choices with his charisma. There must have been difficulties in that, but I believe he was a captain that the crew could trust and rely on.'

In particular, since he is also active as a photographer, when asked, 'As a fellow creator, are there aspects you want to learn from or feel jealous of?' he immediately replied, 'There definitely are.' Ryu Jun-yeol stated, 'As is commonly mentioned, in the roles of director and actor, the actor typically has more works. Although I have not counted yet, it seems the number of my works is fewer than that of director Yeon Sang-ho. That's quite a mystery. To some extent, I cannot fully express it but while shooting a movie, he seems to already think about the next film. So it’s somewhat hard to say that this is imagination, but he seems to have a lot of interest and thoughts in that direction. That's the point that makes me jealous. I can't pinpoint it precisely, but I wonder, “Where does such imagination come from?” It’s really fun to talk, and he possesses a natural talent in storytelling, so I am envious of all of that.'

As he discussed the challenges of working on this project, Ryu Jun-yeol mentioned, 'Rather than difficult parts, there were many aspects to ponder. I was worried about performing in ways I hadn’t before, but fortunately, it seems I was well received. So I assess that there was a harvest in trying something new.' He also noted, 'Like director Yeon Sang-ho, I want to do my next project quickly,' bringing a smile to the conversation. (To be continued in interview ③.)
