'What do you do when you play?' PD revealed the reason for reviving the 'surprise attack' from 'Infinite Challenge' after 16 years.
Today (22nd), the MBC entertainment program 'What do you do when you play?' (abbreviated as 'WDP') is generating excitement with the revival of the 'surprise attack' episode that was showcased in the legendary MBC entertainment show 'Infinite Challenge' (abbreviated as 'IC'). It has been 16 years since it was broadcast in 2009. Regarding this, Kim Jin-yong, the PD of 'What do you do when you play?' explained the intention behind the project to OSEN on the 21st.
Kim Jin-yong PD noted, "There have been many articles about the recent economic downturn. I was looking for ways to cheer up and support self-employed individuals while bringing smiles, which led to the idea of the surprise attack."
As many viewers still cherish nostalgia for 'Infinite Challenge,' the presentation of the surprise attack in 'What do you do when you play?' is welcomed. Kim Jin-yong PD cautiously said, "It is not a deliberate attempt to seek out past entertainment or items. Rather, I have thought a lot about it, and there is no reason to avoid something that already has a good precedent. Since many people still seek it out, I hope they enjoy it with a warm heart."
There is a situation where it needs to be showcased as if attacking the 'mukbang' (eating broadcast). Did the 'small bite' members like Joo Woo-jae and Lee Mi-joo face difficulties? In relation to this, Kim Jin-yong PD remarked, "They also tried their best to do their best. Please check if it helped with the actual sales after watching the broadcast."
He added, "Rather than the members' eating habits, I wanted to increase the sales by focusing on the purpose of the 'surprise attack.' I felt that our members alone might not be enough. As it was conducted with the wrestling team in 'Infinite Challenge,' this time, we invited joyfully people worthy of hosting, and about 40 people shared a meal."
Additionally, he stated, "Before this project, I encountered too many reports about self-employed individuals struggling. However, we do not intend to deliver a grand social message. It started from wanting to bring a little more comfortable laughter to more viewers, so I hope you all enjoy your time watching."
The revived surprise attack will be featured in 'What do you do when you play?' which airs today at 6:25 p.m. Yoo Jae-suk will become 'Yoo Yoursa' and is set to showcase surprise attacks like 'The secret royal inspector is here' along with Ha Ha, Joo Woo-jae, Lee Yi-kyung, Park Jin-joo, and Lee Mi-joo.
