The prosecution has sought a prison sentence for rapper Sik-K (real name Kwon Min-sik).
On the 20th, the prosecution requested a sentence of 3 years and 6 months in prison for Sik-K during his trial over the violation of the Narcotics Control Act (marijuana), which was held under the jurisdiction of Judge Ma Seong-young of the Seoul Western District Court.
On this day, the prosecution stated, "The defendant is a well-known rapper widely recognized by the public and has a significant influence on youth," adding that "Considering the fact that he committed the same crime in the past and received probation, his offense is serious."
In response, Sik-K said, "I have never felt so ashamed," and stated, "I am deeply reflecting on my actions, and if given the chance to make amends to my family and company officials, I will sincerely repent and live my life accordingly."
Sik-K's attorney also requested leniency, noting that he voluntarily surrendered, which led to the investigation.
Earlier, Sik-K was brought to trial for using ketamine and ecstasy from Oct. 1 to 9, 2023. He is also facing charges for smoking marijuana on Jan. 11 of the previous year and possessing marijuana on Jan. 13 of the same year.
Additionally, Sik-K informed police working near the Seoul Local Veterans Affairs Office in Yongsan District on the morning of January 1 that he intended to confess to drug use, which led to an investigation by the police. A precise examination by the National Forensic Service revealed a positive reaction for methamphetamine, and in June of the previous year, the prosecution submitted him to trial while he was not in custody.
In this regard, Sik-K's legal representative stated that he disclosed his drug use due to delirium experienced after surgery, but denied using methamphetamine.
Subsequently, during the first trial for the violation of the Narcotics Control Act held in September of the previous year under the jurisdiction of Director General Ma Seong-young, he acknowledged the charges of smoking and possessing marijuana but indicated that he would express his opinion regarding the allegations of using ketamine and ecstasy at the next hearing.
Sik-K's sentencing trial is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. on May 1.
