Director Kim Hyung-joo of 'Victory' confessed his honest feelings about lead actor Yoo Ah-in, who has come under fire for a drug scandal.

On the afternoon of the 19th, a press screening of the film 'Victory' took place at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Seoul. Attendees included lead actors Lee Byung-hun, Ko Chang-seok, Jo Woo-jin, Moon Jung-hee, Hyun Bong-sik, and Director Kim Hyung-joo.

The film 'Victory' (directed by Kim Hyung-joo, distributed by By4M Studio Co., Ltd., produced by Film Company Wolgwang Co., Ltd., co-produced by BH Entertainment) depicts the story of Korea's greatest Go legend, Cho Hun-hyun (played by Lee Byung-hun), who challenges the top once again after losing a match against his student Lee Chang-ho (played by Yoo Ah-in).

Director Kim Hyung-joo opened up about questions regarding lead actor Yoo Ah-in, who has been embroiled in a drug controversy, saying, "I would love to have a drink and talk about this separately," eliciting laughter.

During the casting phase, the combination of Lee Byung-hun and Yoo Ah-in was excellent, but Yoo Ah-in's drug incident caused the release to be delayed for several years. There were many twists and turns, including a shift from Netflix to theaters.

The director noted, "Lee Byung-hun was cast first. Just that felt like I had the whole world. And with Yoo Ah-in also being cast, it felt like I gained something extra. I was happy but also felt a lot of pressure," and added, "To be honest, as a lead actor, it could be seen as irresponsible or disappointing. Before being an actor, he has committed a wrong as a member of society and is currently facing punishment. I don’t think there’s more for me to say on that point."

He continued, "If I speak personally, it felt like 'being trapped in a hellish tunnel,' as mentioned in the movie's dialogue. There was nothing I could do within it. I felt lost. Nevertheless, I can see a beam of light in the form of release ahead, so I feel a sense of relief. It’s also quite moving," adding, "The actors and staff who worked hard also waited for this release. The faces of those who struggled with me come to mind. Emotions are mixed."

Meanwhile, 'Victory' is set to be released on the 26th.
