KBS's 34th generation rookie comedians have brought a fresh wind to 'Gag Concert.'
KBS2's 'Gag Concert' changed its broadcast time to 9:20 p.m. on Sundays since the 16th. With the change in scheduling, viewership ratings also rose to 3.1% (based on Nielsen Korea nationwide), laying the foundation for another golden age.
Particularly, the 34th generation rookie comedians, including Kang Myung-seon, Kang Joo-won, Kim Ga-eun, Seo Seong-kyung, Seo Yoo-gi, Son Min-kyung, Son Yoo-dam, Ahn Hyun-woo, Eo Young-jin, Yoo Yeon-jo, Yoon Jae-woong, Jo Jin-hyung, Han Soo-chan, and Hwang Hye-seon, who passed through a fierce competition rate of 32:1, are expected to be the catalyst for the revival of 'Gag Concert.' The 14 rookie comedians, who have been on stage for less than two weeks since passing, successfully debuted in the 'Gag Concert' stage since the last broadcast.
The 34th generation rookies played a significant role as assistants to the senior comedians. In 'Defconn, Some How,' male rookies including Seo Yoo-gi and Yoon Jae-woong showed their passion without holding back, while in 'Australopithecus,' Seo Seong-kyung, Son Min-kyung, and Hwang Hye-seon created laughter together with the 19th generation comedian Yoo Se-yoon, who made a special appearance.
'Simgoek Police Station' showcased new characters prepared by the rookies that hunted for the audience's laughter. Son Min-kyung, Son Yoo-dam, and Seo Seong-kyung performed as a trio of discordant buskers, while Yoo Yeon-jo appeared as a troublemaking rapper, actively delivering laughter with the rookies' own confidence and vitality. In 'Such a Kind Romance,' Hwang Hye-seon showcased her presence as 'Japanese girlfriend' Haruki, who speaks Japanese that sounds like swearing.
It was a gamble by the production team to inject rookies into the 'Gag Concert,' which has just changed its scheduling to prime time. Responding to the expectations of the production team, the rookies firmly made their mark on the audience with their prepared skills and passion for the stage.
In particular, the way they built their own characters in harmony with senior comedians added new vitality to the program, and this bold decision by the production team is expected to lead to the long-term consolidation of 'Gag Concert.'
'Gag Concert' officials noted, "The drive and passion of the 34th generation rookie comedians are injecting new energy into the program," adding, "We will present laughter that all generations can enjoy together, with a more diverse and fresh comedy created by the harmony of senior and junior comedians."
