Kim Shin-rok is showcasing the true essence of a villain in "Undercover High School," delivering a remarkable performance.
In the MBC drama "Undercover High School" (planned by Namgung Seong-woo, written by Lim Young-bin, directed by Choi Jeong-in, hereinafter referred to as "Under School"), Kim Shin-rok is establishing a strong presence as Seong Myung-joo, chairman of the Byeongmun Foundation and Byeongmun High School, who holds money, power, and honor. With his appearance alone, he exudes overwhelming charisma, providing both tension and enjoyment to the drama.
The meeting between Jeong Hae-seong (played by Seo Kang-joon) and chairman Seong Myung-joo (played by Kim Shin-rok) left viewers breathless at every moment. In the third episode, Myung-joo appeared before Hae-seong, who was examining a grandfather clock related to the late-night horror story. She froze him with her sharp words, hinting that their future encounters would become even more thrilling. Moreover, Myung-joo's calm order to Principal Park Jae-moon (played by Park Jin-woo) to kill the security guard Kim (played by Koo Min-hyuk) and retrieve the notebook from Hae-seong sent chills down the spine.
Especially towards the end of the eighth episode, it was revealed that Myung-joo had suspicions about Hae-seong's identity, shocking viewers at home. While Hae-seong was erasing access records from Myung-joo's computer, he discovered a file containing an operational plan and his personnel record card, suggesting that someone within the National Intelligence Service was colluding with Myung-joo. In this way, Hae-seong and Myung-joo encounter accidents and incidents while pursuing the whereabouts of the gold bullion, adding to the intrigue.
The relationship between Myung-joo and temporary teacher Oh Soo-ah (played by Jin Ki-joo) is also unusual. In the eighth episode, Myung-joo instructed Soo-ah, who obtained the internal affairs corruption file, to follow orders from her superior, citing the First Sino-Japanese War as an example. However, Soo-ah did not comply and pursued the internal affairs corruption case, raising curiosity about whether she can finish what she started, given that she has become a thorn in Myung-joo's side.
In the fifth episode, Myung-joo's psychological pressure on her daughter Lee Ye-na (played by Kim Min-joo) gripped the hearts of viewers. When Ye-na explained that she was late because she had dinner with friends, Myung-joo pressed, saying, "Was it a necessary meal?" while urging her to focus on her midterms. Following that, Myung-joo held Ye-na's hand and said, "You know mom loves our Ye-na, right?" which heightened the tension. Furthermore, in the seventh episode, after realizing that she harmed herself, Myung-joo committed self-harm in front of Ye-na, sending chills. In the eighth episode, after Han Seung-jae (played by Lee Hyun-soo) slandered her daughter Ye-na in front of her, she slapped him in the bathroom, warning him that she would relentlessly pursue anyone who interferes with her plans.
In this way, Kim Shin-rok dominated the audience with her intense charisma and actions, intertwining complexly with Seo Kang-joon, Jin Ki-joo, and Kim Min-joo, keeping viewers glued to their screens. It raises curiosity about what Myung-joo will do to maintain her position and find the gold bullion in the drama.
