The meaning of actor Jung Woo-sung's statement that he would "fulfill his responsibilities as a father" regarding his biological child, born to model Moon Gabi, has been analyzed.
On the 14th, a video titled "How much does the public have the right to know about the private lives of celebrities? | This month's Gold Week" was released on the YouTube channel 'Viewport'.
In the video, attorney Yang Na-rae noted regarding the son born between Jung Woo-sung and Moon Gabi that "the status of an heir is not solely based on being born between a couple" and added, "However, if I have given birth to an illegitimate child, a paternity acknowledgment procedure must be followed to establish the status of heir."
She continued, "If you look at the family relationship certificate, both parents and children are registered like this, but merely being a biological child does not automatically mean it will be recorded on the family relationship certificate. If a child is born between individuals who are not married, the mother’s child will be immediately recognized, but there is no way to confirm who the father is. Therefore, genetic testing and acknowledgment claims must be made for the child to be registered legally. When a family relationship certificate is issued, if it is registered alongside the biological children of the original wife, only then will the status of an heir arise. Thus, with an acknowledgment claim, inheritance will naturally be granted. If an acknowledgment claim is not made, inheritance cannot be received."
In response, Seo Dong-joo remarked, "An acknowledgment claim must somehow be made." Attorney Yang then noted, "I think there could be a high probability of success."
Cultural critic Ha Jae-geun speculated, "Jung Woo-sung said he would fulfill his duties as a father regarding that illegitimate child, which likely means he intends to legally recognize the child as his own." Attorney Yang added, "In fact, when someone says 'I will fulfill my role as a father,' the first thing that usually comes to mind is the payment of child support. However, even if the child is biological, one can voluntarily provide child support without making an acknowledgment claim. What happens in reality is uncertain since we do not know their private circumstances, but to establish a legal obligation to pay, an acknowledgment claim must certainly be made."
Seo Dong-joo pointed out, "The issue of how to interpret the statement 'I will fulfill my responsibilities' legally is another matter."
It was belatedly revealed that Moon Gabi gave birth in March last year, and by the end of that year, Jung Woo-sung was confirmed as the biological father, drawing significant attention.
