Author and broadcaster Kwak Jung-eun has left for Australia for language study.

Kwak recently shared his daily life of studying and traveling in Australia for a month on his YouTube channel.

He noted, "I have been continuously attending school for the last six and a half years, and I guess I am still hungry for studying. Although this has been a dream of mine for a long time, my decision to start my language study and travel plans was quite impulsive."

He added, "To someone who is contemplating whether to leave or not, I want to tell them to go, as that feels right. I brought a good camera, but I still don’t feel like taking it out, so I’m loosely shooting videos with my iPhone, and I think that if even one person in this world can find a special departure for themselves through this video that lacks any visual beauty, it would be meaningful enough."

In the video, Kwak explained the reason for coming to Australia for language study: "Honestly, I thought about just relaxing for about two weeks of travel, but there was a reason I came for a five-week journey for language study." He said, "When I was twenty, I really wanted to go study abroad to learn English, but I couldn’t leave at that time for various reasons."

He continued, "After that, I worked really hard for 26 years. However, there has always been a puzzle in my heart that feels empty—a puzzle of wanting to live in an unfamiliar place as a studying student. A dream of simply living as a student, unrelated to achieving scores or writing resumes. So, I came to Sydney. I could have comfortably studied in a country I had already visited, but there was a pull that felt like it should be here."

Living in a dormitory, he shared, "Things that are very easy in Korea can become quite surprising abroad, and I realized that it also humbles me." He also revealed an anecdote about being turned away at an Australian bank.

He explained, "I went to the bank to open an Australian account. I needed to create an Australian account to get a refund for the dormitory deposit, so I thought it would be easy to do anywhere and assumed they would be somewhat friendly, but yesterday the Commonwealth Bank turned me away, saying it absolutely wouldn’t work because of my tourist visa."
