Singer Sung Si-kyung gave realistic advice to junior Choi Yu-ri.
On the 3rd, Choi Yu-ri was invited to participate in "I'll Sing" on Sung Si-kyung's YouTube channel.
On that day, Choi Yu-ri greeted, "I am singer-songwriter Choi Yu-ri," and Sung Si-kyung joked, "I'll just speak comfortably since there's only a 19-year age difference." Sung Si-kyung started by saying, "(Kim) Bum-soo wrote the title track. When he released it, Bum-soo praised it highly," and Choi Yu-ri expressed her gratitude, saying, "I really appreciate that you always speak so well of me wherever you go."
Choi Yu-ri won the Daesang at the 29th "Yu Jae-ha Music Competition." Choi Yu-ri explained, "I am majoring in composition."
When Sung Si-kyung asked, "What song hit the most?" Choi Yu-ri replied, "It's probably the song 'Forest.' I often wondered why it became so popular. Even though I treated it like any other song and released it with the same level of affection, it seems to have received particularly more attention."
In response, Sung Si-kyung said, "I don't know how it is nowadays, but I want to share this thought first. Back in our day, there were really a lot of people who could sing well, but not many of them became hits. But I guess it’s about balance; the people who can align 'what they genuinely love' with 'what people genuinely like' always tend to hit the mark."
Sung Si-kyung continued, "While I can't do music I dislike, it's essential to have a title track that's a bit easier, a bit more popular, and aligned with the taste. Inside the album, there should be plenty of what you want to do and show off. Those who make such choices seem to be wise and always hit the mark."
While sharing various stories, Sung Si-kyung asked, "Do you speak any foreign languages?" Choi Yu-ri shook her head and said, "I was thinking maybe I should try learning Japanese."
Hearing this, Sung Si-kyung said, "You met me at a good time. Now you need to learn a foreign language. Dedicate at least one hour a day from the time you practice on the keyboard. Because by the time you're 30, you should go abroad. You need to think about those things. It's nice to speak Korean, but melodies come out differently when you sing in English or Japanese."
Additionally, Sung Si-kyung noted, "It would really be great. Whenever I meet juniors, I always tell them that they don't need anything else, just to study a foreign language. I think it’s because I couldn't do it when I was younger. I just drank a lot. It’s so regrettable when I think about it now."
