I want to say that 'Flowering' is like my teenage diary album. 'Flowering' means blooming, and I want to express the time when I, as the artist Gyu-bin, am blooming. Since the time of full bloom is different for everyone, let's not rush. I hope those listening also won't rush.
On the 26th at noon, Gyu-bin will release the mini album 'Flowering' and begin full-scale activities for the first time since debut. Through this album, Gyu-bin aims to show her growth from a teenage girl to a mature artist, heralding a new musical leap ahead.
Earlier, on the 25th in the afternoon, Gyu-bin conducted a comeback interview at the OSEN office located in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, expressing her expectations for this album and the process of preparing for it.
This album includes a total of six tracks, including the title song 'LIKE U 100,' with the title track available in both Korean and English versions to broaden Gyu-bin's global fan base. Each track vividly portrays a pure yet confident love story with Gyu-bin's unique tone and various emotions. Particularly, Gyu-bin took her first steps as a singer-songwriter by participating in the songwriting and composing for all tracks on this album, showcasing a broader and richer musical world.
When asked about his feelings on his first comeback after turning 20, he noted, "Since I directly participated in this album, my affection for it seems to be exceptional. If I felt that it was my song during the creating process, it feels like I'm letting it go as I release it. I'm proud and happy that precious songs from my life can be included in one album."
'LIKE U 100,' the title track, feels much more bouncy compared to the previously released songs 'Really Like You' and 'satellite.' When asked if she intentionally arranged the music to be bouncy, Gyu-bin replied, "This album is intended to be singable and easy to follow. I wanted to create a song that could bounce around at festivals or on stage. I thought that would match my fresh and vibrant image."
However, Gyu-bin explained, "I didn't think I needed to go differently. I aimed to showcase the freshness of the debut song even more and tried to connect it with a playful vibe. I sketched it out initially and began creating the song, and the resulting sound matched my tone well. 'Oops!' is really kitschy, and it's a song I'm trying for the first time, but it's quite funny. It feels like a song I can't sing if it's not now."
He said, "I feel like I was able to create music that fits my age with this album. There are already released songs and pre-debut songs, but in a way, this is the first chapter of the album, and it seems to have absorbed very honest emotions and what I wanted to do."
Was there any disagreement in selecting the title track? Gyu-bin, who participated in all the tracks, sighed and said, "It was quite intense. Opinions vary widely, and so do age groups. In fact, since there's no correct answer when it comes to personal taste... I ended up becoming deep while weighing the elements to see what was the best, and we went with 'LIKE U 100' which can showcase my bouncy vibe well."
When asked about her experience preparing the album, Gyu-bin recalled, "This time, through a songwriting camp experience, I met various writers over three weeks and wrote several songs. Many tracks were created like sketches, and I mentioned wanting to include them in the next album. I was able to participate in songwriting and composing through the song sessions."
Gyu-bin shared, "I've seen through documentaries how foreign pop singers freely gather ideas and create songs together. It was something I wanted to try, and this time, I was lucky enough to have created something great with an amazing writer in our country, and I had the opportunity to incorporate my story without reservations, so it feels like I did everything I wanted. Now that the result came out well, I gained confidence in myself and feel that I've grown as a singer-songwriter. I'm craving more and igniting my will."
Regarding why she is especially satisfied with this album, Gyu-bin conveyed, "The company president mentioned that they aimed for me to participate in at least one song, but I'm proud that I participated in all tracks, and they seem to be pleased. I'm grateful for the opportunity given to me, and they feel like my own children. Since the songs came from my hands, I feel like I can empathize with them more, and I also looked back at the diaries I used to keep while writing lyrics this time. I've been writing since I was young, and I realized that I had those thoughts during my teenage years, it was really fun."
Gyu-bin conveyed about her first mini album 'Flowering,' "I want to say that it is like my teenage diary album. 'Flowering' means blooming, and I want to express the time when I, as the artist Gyu-bin, am blooming. Since the time of full bloom is different for everyone, let's not rush. I hope those listening also won't rush." (Continued in interview②.)
