As the background of the late Oh Yoanna's death is known to be workplace bullying, MBC has formed an investigative committee and is currently conducting an investigation, during which materials from the opposing party of the civil lawsuit with the bereaved family have been leaked.
Recently, reports of attendance and transcripts containing details of the Oh Yoanna broadcasting incident and tardiness have been leaked primarily through online communities.
According to the attendance report that appears to have been leaked, Oh Yoanna was late for ‘News Today’ in January 2022, causing a broadcasting incident crisis. In response, meteorologist Lee Hyun-seung was on emergency standby. In August, she was absent without permission from ‘News Today,’ resulting in a live broadcasting crisis, and Lee Hyun-seung was deployed as an emergency substitute. In October, after being late twice, staff from the meteorology team visited her home to ensure she reported to work.
In January 2023, there were two instances of tardiness for the ‘12 p.m. News,’ leading to a broadcasting incident crisis. Additionally, between October 2022 and January 2023, she was recorded as having three unexcused absences from the radio program ‘Opening the World,’ causing broadcasting disruptions.
Amid this, there are suspicions that Park Ha-myung, who is accused of workplace bullying, may have leaked the information. The author of the posts has a username similar to Park Ha-myung's Instagram handle. Furthermore, there are concerns that a nickname similar to the pseudonym Park Ha-myung used during her internet broadcasts was also detected, suggesting an attempt to sway public opinion. Conversely, some netizens who encountered the leaked materials have expressed the opinion that they were not unjustly bullied, reflecting a sharp divide in opinions.
The bereaved family claims that the bullying began in earnest when Oh Yoanna took on the weekday hosting of ‘News Today’ four months after joining the company in September 2021, and that the bullying persisted continuously, leading to a diagnosis of depression.
Meanwhile, Oh Yoanna suddenly passed away in September last year. At the time, the cause of death was not known, but on the 27th of last month, a media report stated that a letter was found on Oh Yoanna's mobile phone complaining of workplace bullying, drawing attention to her background.
According to reports, Oh Yoanna informed four MBC officials about this before her death but was ignored, and her family urged for a sincere apology from the perpetrators and a heartfelt apology broadcast from MBC, stating they want the truth.
In response, MBC formed an investigative committee that began its investigation with the first meeting on the 5th. Lawyer Chae Yang-hee from the law firm Hyemyeong was appointed as the Chairperson of the investigative committee, and attorney Jeong In-jin from the law firm Bareun was appointed as an external member. Additionally, three internal personnel, the head of the human resources department and the heads of compliance-related departments, also participate as Commissioners.
