On the 25th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the selection of the Gumi National Industrial Complex, the Changwon National Industrial Complex, and the Wanju General Industrial Complex as ‘2025 Cultural Leading Industrial Complexes.’
The three selected cultural leading industrial complexes this year will establish an integrated brand for the complexes reflecting their main industries and historical significance. Based on this, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will comprehensively support related projects, including specialized cultural program support projects, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's structural advancement projects, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's old industrial complex regeneration projects.
In the Gumi Industrial Complex, a landmark preserving the historical significance of existing buildings will be created on the site of an idle factory. Various cultural and artistic facilities are also planned to be established nearby.
In the Changwon Industrial Complex, an industrial tourism course linked to defense infrastructure will be developed. The goal is to create an industrial complex brand suitable for the country’s largest comprehensive machine industrial complex.
The Wanju Industrial Complex will prepare cultural facilities and programs focused on the hydrogen industry, in conjunction with the hydrogen-specialized national industrial complex selected last year.
Lee Jung-woo, head of the Cultural Arts Policy Office at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, “We will concentrate support on cultural projects to create a space that young workers and local residents prefer, including the creation of specialized cultural programs and artist creation and production spaces.”
