Korea men's national soccer team captain Son Heung-min (LAFC) scored twice in the first half of a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago to put the team ahead.
The Korea men's national soccer team, led by coach Hong Myung-bo, finished the first half up 2-0 in a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago on May 31 (Korea time) at South Field at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Korea seized control early and pressed the attack but could not break through the defense, leading to a frustrating spell. The one who broke the deadlock was Son Heung-min.
In the 40th minute, Son Heung-min calmly finished a low cross from Kim Moon-hwan (Daejeon) to score the opener. Riding the momentum, three minutes later Son stepped up as the penalty-kick taker and converted to complete a brace.
After this match against Trinidad and Tobago, the Korea national team will play a friendly against El Salvador on June 4 to check its form. Then on June 12, it will play its first group-stage match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup (Czech Republic).
