Basketball emperor Michael Jordan (63) even appeared at the farewell ceremony for Pep Guardiola (55), the manager who led Manchester City's 10-year golden era.
Global sports network ESPN reported on the 26th (Korea time) that Manchester City held an official farewell party at the indoor venue Co-op Live after an open-top bus parade through Manchester city.
The event was held for the club to share with fans the glory of winning the Carabao Cup (EFL Cup) and the FA Cup double this season. It was also intended as a tribute to manager Guardiola and Bernardo Silva (32) and John Stones (32), who are leaving the team at the end of this season.
Tributes to Guardiola, who won 20 major trophies with Manchester City over 10 years since his appointment in 2016, were especially abundant. Among them was NBA legend Michael Jordan.
Jordan said in a video, "I wanted to congratulate you on your incredible career," and added, "enjoy your retirement. Good luck on the golf course and may you hit your shots straight. Congratulations." It was a message that clearly showed his passion for golf.
In his final conversation with Noel Gallagher (59) of the legendary British band Oasis, Guardiola displayed his deep affection for the club.
He said, "First, thank you so much for coming tonight to say goodbye. I feel the connections this club has," and added, "to Khaldoon Al Mubarak and everyone who has been connected from the very first moment, and to all Manchester City fans, thank you. Words are not enough to express my gratitude. Always, for the rest of my life I will keep you in my heart."
