A reward reporting system to eradicate illegal sports gambling is being operated. Depending on the type of report, rewards of up to 200 million won are paid, drawing interest.
Korea Sports Leisure, the entrusted operator of Sports Toto, the sports promotion lottery ticket, said it operates the "illegal Sports Toto reporting center," which pays rewards when illegal sports gambling–related activities are reported.
The reporting targets cover the operation and use of illegal sports gambling sites, promotional activities, as well as system design, brokering/betting mediation, provision of match information and other violations under the National Sports Promotion Act. Reports can be made through a dedicated website and by phone.
In particular, tip-offs about illegal sports gambling operations can receive rewards of up to 200 million won. Reports related to match-fixing can receive up to 50 million won, and reports of illegal sports gambling use, promotion, mediation and the like can receive up to 15 million won.
To report an illegal site, you must submit evidence materials along with access-related information such as the site address (URL), account information, and referrer code. Depending on the review results, site reports receive rewards of 15,000 won per case, within a maximum of 1.5 million won per person.
Reporting of deposit accounts is also possible separately. If you report account information linked to an illegal site, a reward of 100,000 won is paid per case, and there is no limit on the number of payments.
However, illegal gambling sites that repeatedly create identical sites or replicate URLs without limit may have reward payments restricted for reporters other than the first reporter.
Korea Sports Leisure said, "Illegal sports gambling is a crime that causes significant social harm," and noted, "Active reporting participation by citizens will greatly help eradicate illegal gambling."
