Korea Sports Leisure operates a reporting system that pays rewards of up to 200 million won to eradicate illegal sports gambling.
Korea Sports Leisure, the trustee operator of Sports Toto, the sports promotion lottery issued by the Seoul Olympic Memorial Foundation for Sports Promotion, pays rewards for reports of violations of the National Sports Promotion Act through the "illegal Sports Toto reporting center."
The subjects of reports cover operators, users and promoters of illegal sports gambling sites and related activities in general. Reports can be made via the illegal Sports Toto reporting center website and by phone (1899-1119).
The reward amounts are also large. Reporting operations of illegal sports gambling can earn up to 200 million won. Reports related to match-fixing in games subject to issuance of the sports promotion lottery can earn up to 50 million won, and reports of illegal sports gambling use, promotion, system design, broadcasting and brokerage, and provision of sports game information can earn up to 15 million won.
To report an illegal sports gambling site, you must verify your identity, enter the site address (URL), access information (ID, password, referrer, etc.) and attach related evidentiary materials. Then, depending on the Korea Communications Commission review results, rewards will be paid at 15,000 won per case, up to 1.5 million won per person.
However, for sites that replicate the same gambling site infinitely or sites with URL generation functions, rewards may be restricted for reporters other than the first reporter.
It is also possible to report deposit accounts for illegal sports gambling sites. This can be done simultaneously with the site report, and depending on the review results, a reward of 100,000 won per case will be paid. There is no payment limit for account reports.
Because reward payment results and guidance are delivered via mobile phone text (LMS), reporters must enter an accurate mobile phone number.
A Korea Sports Leisure official said, "Voluntary reporting participation by citizens is the key to eradicating illegal sports gambling," and added, "We will work to prevent social harm through continuous operation of the system."
