Hanwha Eagles 'prince of Daejeon' Moon Dong-ju (pitcher) has been sidelined because of shoulder pain. The manager's diagnosis was not light.
Moon Dong-ju started on the mound in the Samsung Lions game in Daegu on the 2nd but was pulled early in the first inning after feeling a shoulder problem.
Moon Dong-ju allowed a medium-center hit to leadoff hitter Park Seung-gyu in the first inning, then struck out Kim Sung-yun. After a steal put a runner on second with one out, he retired Choi Hyung-woo with a fly to center to end up with two outs.
But during that sequence he complained of discomfort in his shoulder. The pitching coach and trainer went up to the mound to check his condition, and he was eventually replaced by Kwon Min-kyu.
Hanwha removed Moon Dong-ju from the first-team roster and called up Kang Geon-woo ahead of the Samsung game in Daegu on the 3rd. Moon Dong-ju is scheduled to undergo a detailed examination on the 4th.
The exact condition must be seen from the examination results, but the situation does not look at all light. With clear signs of a shoulder problem, manager Kim Kyung-moon also showed a somewhat negative reaction about Moon Dong-ju's current condition.
Manager Kim Kyung-moon's words were short but heavy. He said, "It seems somewhat bad. It looks like it will take a long time." That suggested the possibility of a long-term absence.
With foreign pitcher Wilkel Hernandez out followed by Moon Dong-ju, the gap in the starting rotation has grown larger.
Manager Kim Kyung-moon said, "We have to use our team's young pitchers with potential," and added, "We're considering Kang Geon-woo, and Jeong Woo-joo should now be entering the starting rotation as well."
He added, "The pitchers who had been throwing are out, but the players joining the team have shown something and have potential. I hope they throw on the mound without being intimidated."
