The long silence ended. Daegu FC finally regained victory and changed the momentum. It was an achievement brought about by the coaching change.
Daegu, led by coach Choi Seong-yong, defeated Gyeongnam FC 2-0 on the 3rd in the Hana Bank K League 2 2026 Round 10 held at Daegu iM Bank Park. In the second half, Kim Ju-gong and Se-Jeong-ya scored consecutive goals to produce the result. Daegu secured their first win in 49 days since the March 15 match against Chungnam Asan and stopped the run of conceding goals that had continued since the season opener after 63 days.
Daegu seized control from the early stages of the match. They used possession to press the opponent and consistently created attacking opportunities. In the 19th minute of the first half, Se-Jeong-ya lifted the atmosphere by attempting a left-footed midrange shot from outside the box, and afterward they unsettled Gyeongnam's defense through set pieces and wing play.
But the first half did not open easily. Gyeongnam dropped its defensive line deep to minimize space, and Daegu also failed to produce a decisive strike. In the 38th minute of the first half Se-Jeong-ya's free kick and in the 39th minute Ryu Jae-moon's header followed, but neither led to a goal. Possession was high, but there was regret in the finishing.
Gyeongnam focused on defense throughout the first half and looked for counterattack opportunities, but real threats were limited. The long-range shot by Kim Jeong-hyun in the 17th minute of the first half was the only scene that stood out.
The balance was broken early in the second half. Kim Ju-gong changed the momentum. In the 6th minute of the second half, he calmly attempted a right-footed shot amid a scramble in the box to score the opening goal. A pass sequence through Seraphim and Kim Dae-woo led to the decisive moment.
After taking the lead, Daegu immediately made a change. In the 11th minute of the second half they withdrew Kim Ju-gong and brought on Edgar to add weight to the attack. While Gyeongnam's defense concentrated on marking Edgar, another opportunity was created.
In the 23rd minute of the second half a handball foul was called during an aerial duel. After a VAR check a penalty kick was awarded, and Se-Jeong-ya calmly finished to widen the score. The outcome was essentially decided at that moment.
Gyeongnam tried to counterattack in the second half. Danrey and Jo Sang-jun each took shots in succession, but their accuracy was off. Even amid a somewhat pressured flow in the final minutes of the second half, Daegu maintained defensive concentration and did not concede.
