NC Dinos ace Goo Chang-mo was suddenly removed from the first-team roster. It is his first rest.
NC made roster changes ahead of the regular-season game against the KIA Tigers at Changwon NC Park on the 30th. Goo Chang-mo was excluded from the first-team roster. Outfielder Park Si-won was also removed from the first team. In their place, pitcher Kim Tae-kyung and outfielder Yoon Joon-hyuk were called up.
Goo Chang-mo started the previous day's (29th) game and left the mound after six innings, allowing seven hits (three home runs), one walk, striking out five, giving up three runs, and recording a quality start. He threw 89 pitches.
Having started the season healthy, Goo Chang-mo has appeared in six games this season, pitching 34 1/3 innings with three wins, a 2.88 earned run average, 23 strikeouts and a 1.05 WHIP.
Before this season, Goo Chang-mo and manager Lee Ho-jun agreed to give him about 40 innings of rest. It could be flexible, but the broad plan was 40 innings. In the end, he is entering rest before reaching 40 innings.
Manager Lee Ho-jun said about the three home runs allowed the previous day, "It is not that his stuff has declined. Rather, his stuff has improved. He was not bad yesterday either, but the opposing hitters made good contact on mistakes." He added, "Now seems to be the right timing to take a rest." Goo Chang-mo will rest for exactly 10 days and is scheduled to return on May 10 against Samsung in Changwon.
Manager Lee Ho-jun also explained about Goo Chang-mo pitching twice a week, "It will not be twice a week for the foreseeable future, though not necessarily for the entire season. There are currently no plans."
Regarding the starting pitcher who will replace Goo Chang-mo, manager Lee Ho-jun said, "Shin Young-woo will be inserted as Goo Chang-mo's replacement starter."
That day NC will start Kim Joo-won (shortstop), Park Min-woo (second base), Park Gun-woo (designated hitter), Davidson (first base), Lee Woo-sung (right field), Go Jun-hwi (left field), Ahn Jung-yeol (catcher), Chun Jae-hwan (center field) and Do Tae-hoon (third base). The starting pitcher is Curtis Taylor. <
