It appears the forward who reportedly even ended a relationship to move to a big club has returned to his partner.
The British Daily Mail reported on the 29th (Korean time) that Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres appears to be reunited with his girlfriend Ines Aguiar, whom he broke up with last summer, and said the two were recently spotted together at a restaurant in Lisbon, Portugal.
Gyokeres left Sporting Lisbon for Arsenal last summer. The transfer fee was a whopping 64 million pounds (about 114 billion won). The process was not smooth. Sporting warned Gyokeres, who did not join preseason training, that he could face disciplinary action. The player pushed for a move to the Premier League and ultimately donned an Arsenal jersey.
His private life also attracted attention during that process. Portuguese outlet TV Kia reported at the time that Gyokeres had broken up with actress Aguiar. The reason was more provocative. According to the report, Gyokeres, under the judgment that he "did not want anything that would tie him to Portugal," was said to have ended the relationship. In plain terms, it was said he even severed personal ties to head to London.
But over time the atmosphere changed. The Daily Mail, citing TV Kia, explained that the two grew close again after living apart. It said the relationship restarted after Gyokeres adapted to life in London.
Rumors of a reunion had already flared once. Aguiar recently posted a video from the stands at Arsenal's FA Cup match against Mansfield Town to her social media. Gyokeres remained on the bench for the full match in which Arsenal won 2-1, but Aguiar's presence at the stadium alone raised the possibility that the two had reconciled.
The two dated while Gyokeres was playing for Sporting. They were reported to have been together for about two years. Aguiar was recently cast in a new Portuguese TV program and is reportedly also looking into buying property in London. This can be interpreted as a move not just for a simple reunion but to shift their living base to the U.K.
This season Gyokeres has 18 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal. He has scored 12 goals in the Premier League. That tally may be somewhat disappointing compared with the expected explosiveness, but under manager Mikel Arteta he has consistently received opportunities and has played an important role in the season's final stretch.
Arsenal now face the most important hurdle. On Wednesday they will play the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal against Atlético Madrid. In the league they are also in a title race with Manchester City. Arsenal currently sit three points ahead of Man City, but Pep Guardiola's team has one game in hand.
Gyokeres's season is not over personally either. He played a key role in Sweden's World Cup qualification campaign. He scored a hat trick in the playoff semifinal and scored the winning goal in the final. Arsenal's title push, the Champions League challenge, and the World Cup: he is going through the most important period of his career.
Last summer there were reports that he even ended a relationship to make the transfer. Now there are reports that, after settling in London, he has found love again. Attention is focused on whether Gyokeres can create a happy ending in both his on-field and private life in the season's final stretch.<
