After suffering a bitter failure at Manchester United (Man U), former manager Rúben Amorim (41) has been touted as the right man for Chelsea.
The British Daily Mail reported on the 25th (Korean time) that former Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon (40) named Amorim as the most suitable candidate to be Chelsea's next manager.
Chelsea suffered a 0-3 defeat to BRIGHTEN on the 22nd, dropping to five straight league losses. Moreover, they were plunged into the worst run in 114 years with five consecutive scoreless defeats.
Amorim was evaluated as "the most promising coach in Europe" while using a 3-4-3 formation at Sporting CP (Portugal). But at Man U he was dismissed after falling far short of expectations. Above all, he persisted with a three-back formation and was shunned by fans.
Some experts say Amorim's failure was because he lacked the time to implement his tactics. Still, it is somewhat surprising that he has been named a managerial candidate again at Chelsea, a rival of Man U.
Puncheon recommended Amorim as Chelsea's manager, saying, "I think that's a good combination," and adding, "I've told people that informally before," making clear it was not an offhand thought.
He said, "Amorim went to Sporting and rebuilt that team from nothing and rebuilt himself and did well," and argued, "I think when he went to Man U the kind of pressure was different."
He also said, "He was trying to change the team to a 3-4-3, and that takes time," adding, "There is no time at Man U. But I think Amorim will be given that time at Chelsea."
Puncheon said, "Of course, it is true that his standing has somewhat fallen because of his poor run at Man U. But Amorim is still Amorim," emphasizing, "With the overwhelming results he proved at Sporting and his experience of leading a giant like Man U, he is a coach worthy of trust."
Meanwhile, Julian Nagelsmann (39), the coach of the German national team who was Chelsea's initial target, is reportedly negative about taking the job, expressing doubts about Chelsea's frequent managerial changes. By contrast, Amorim is desperate for an opportunity to make up for his failure in the Premier League.
