Pohang Steelers spent a special time with fans at Steelyard. They also secured a valuable three points, capping an eight-game home stretch with a victory.
Pohang Steelers held an event called "13 YEARS, LAST WALK" on the 22nd after the home match against Gwangju FC, opening the pitch to fans. The event was arranged to let fans share a final memory of the current pitch ahead of a full turf replacement project.
The event, which started about 20 minutes earlier than scheduled, drew roughly 700 fans who ran across Steelyard leaving their own memories. Fans spent a special time experiencing spaces they normally cannot access, such as the team benches and the interview zone, together with mascots Soedol and Soesuni. The atmosphere was enhanced by fans' requested songs playing throughout the venue.
Fans who attended the event, the father-and-son pair Lee Dong-hyung and Lee Ha-jun, said, "It was impressive to be able to experience the Steelyard pitch up close, and it was a time we will remember for a long time. Walking on the field where the players run felt different and enjoyable."
After completing the eight-game home stretch, Pohang Steelers plan to carry out turf replacement work during a 10-game away stretch and the World Cup break. The plan is to create a more comfortable match environment to improve players' performance and increase fans' viewing satisfaction.
Meanwhile, Pohang Steelers defeated Gwangju FC 1-0 in the match held before the event. Lee Ho-jae's opening goal in the fourth minute of the first half decided the result. Thanks to that, Pohang ended its losing streak, recorded 12 points and rose to sixth place before leaving for the 10-game away stretch.
