Went more than 450 minutes without scoring a goal. Chelsea is spiraling down toward the end of the season.
Chelsea lost 0-3 on April 22 (KST) at the Amex Stadium in BRIGHTEN, England, in the 34th round of the 2025-2026 Premier League away match against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Chelsea is mired in its worst slump. With this defeat Chelsea fell to five consecutive league losses and had not scored a single goal in five matches. According to football statistics outlet Opta, it is the first time in 114 years since the Titanic sank in November 1912 that a team has lost five consecutive matches without scoring.
The match was also dreadful. Chelsea fell behind after conceding in the third minute, and they were unsettled from midfield to the back, conceding three goals. In attack they managed only six shots and had no shots on target. Expected goals (xG) was only 0.37.
In the U.K., ridicule has poured down on Chelsea, which has not scored since March. On social media, posts such as "Chelsea has not scored a single Premier League goal since the Strait of Hormuz was closed" are trending.
Domino's Pizza did not miss the chance. Domino's Pizza's official U.K. account teased, "We have sold 28244736 pizzas since Chelsea last scored in the Premier League," and mocked, "CheLLLLLsea (5 straight losses)."
Fans who saw this tagged the Chelsea club and demanded, "Can you see what we have become? Release a (sacking) statement by morning. Terminate the contracts of the two Liams at this club," calling for manager Liam Rossenier and forward Liam Delap to be sent away. One fan sarcastically said, "Domino's attacks better than Chelsea's strikers."
In fact, Chelsea's board is reportedly considering dismissing Rossenier. British outlet Football 365 reported, "Chelsea convened an emergency board meeting immediately after losing to BRIGHTEN," saying the question is not "Should we sack (Rossenier)?" but "When will we do it?"
After the match Rossenier also could not hide his disappointment. He first criticized his players' attitude. Rossenier said, "Today's match was unacceptable in every way. It was so painful and numbing," adding, "The players' attitudes were at an unacceptable level. I have continually defended and covered for the players. But today's performance is indefensible."
He also said, "We lost 80 percent of the duels and did not win a single aerial duel. Two of the goals conceded were situations we could have prevented with headers. At any level of match you cannot win with such mistakes and lack of aggression. In the Manchester United game three days ago we saw commitment. We lost the result, but the performance was good. Today was the exact opposite. It's disappointing."
With the defeat Chelsea ceded sixth place to BRIGHTEN and fell to seventh. The gap to fifth-place Liverpool is seven points. With four matches remaining it will not be easy to turn it around. In effect, the race for a UEFA Champions League spot next season is over. Angry Chelsea fans even shouted "Get out" at Rossenier during the match.
Rossenier admitted, "This was the toughest night since I joined this great club and one of the hardest matches in my entire managerial career," and added, "I understand the fans' disappointment. I am also disappointed in the performance. We must all continue to work harder together. In the next match I will field players who can properly represent this club," foreshadowing changes.
