The Korea Sepak Takraw Association will hold the 37th national sepak takraw championships at the Hoengseong National Sports Center in Hoengseong County, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, for five days from Apr. 18 to 22.
This tournament, the second nationwide sepak takraw event of 2026, is a testing ground where national team players selected through the March tournament will compete in an actual match for the first time. It is also regarded as an important preparation stage ahead of the May 2026 sepak takraw World Cup, the 2026 world sepak takraw championships, and the 20th Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games.
Men's and women's corporate, college and high school teams from across the country will participate to determine the strongest in each institutional sector. The Korea Sepak Takraw Association is hosting and organizing the event, the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Sepak Takraw Association is co-organizing it, and it is being held with the support of Hoengseong County.
Kim Young-jin, president of the Korea Sepak Takraw Association, said, "This is an important tournament for the players selected for the national team to assess their skills for the first time," and added, "Ahead of upcoming international competitions, we hope it will be an opportunity to confirm the competitiveness of Korea's sepak takraw and to take a step forward."
Kim Myung-gi, Hoengseong county governor, said, "We are very honored to host a nationwide sepak takraw tournament in Hoengseong," and added, "We will do our best in preparing and operating the tournament so that the participating players can show their best skills in a safe and comfortable environment."
Meanwhile, the Korea Sepak Takraw Association plans to invite multicultural families from the Hoengseong area to watch sepak takraw matches, which are very popular in Southeast Asia, as part of a program. Through this, it is expected to expand communication with the local community and increase understanding of and interest in the sepak takraw discipline.
