Neymar (34, Santos) still has a chance to make a fourth World Cup bid.
Carlo Ancelotti, coach of the Brazil national team, gave a positive assessment of Neymar's potential return to the national team in an interview with French outlet L'Équipe. He said, "Neymar has the ability to get back to 100% condition. There are still two months left to show whether he can play in the World Cup."
Neymar is currently working to increase his fitness to return to the Brazil national team. The 34-year-old is aiming to play in this summer's FIFA World Cup. But because of the aftereffects of his injury, he has not played for the Brazil national team since October 2023.
Since taking charge of the Brazil national team in June, coach Ancelotti has not included Neymar in the squad even once. He emphasized the principle, "I have always said I only call players who are physically ready."
Still, Neymar's name is still being mentioned around the national team. Last month, when Brazil lost 1-2 to France in a friendly, Brazilian fans chanted Neymar's name at the stadium.
Ancelotti also acknowledged Neymar's value. He said, "Neymar is a player who will continue to have his name in the history of Brazilian football. Because he is a player with tremendous talent, it is natural that people think he can help the team at the World Cup."
Neymar is currently in the recovery process after knee surgery. He underwent left knee surgery last December and recently underwent additional treatment in preparation for the World Cup.
Fortunately, his recovery pace is positive. Neymar recently played a full match for his club Santos and also scored.
Santos coach Cuca evaluated, "Neymar is getting better every match. He is training more and his movement has much improved. A full 90 minutes is still a burden, but he will gradually get better."
