Nearly the same scene could happen again after almost 100 years. This time it's Barcelona, not Real Madrid. And the stage is El Clásico.
Spanish outlet Bisacr reported on the 7th (Korea time) that FC Barcelona is increasingly likely to secure the title at El Clásico on May 11.
Barcelona recently defeated Atlético Madrid, while Real Madrid was held by RCD Mallorca. As a result, the gap between the two teams widened to 7 points. There are only eight league matches left.
If the current trend continues, Barcelona can clinch the title at the El Clásico against Real Madrid at their home stadium, Camp Nou, on May 11.
The condition is simple. If the current seven-point gap remains unchanged for the next four matches, Barcelona can secure the title with a win at El Clásico. If the gap expands to 10 points before then, a draw would be enough to win the title.
Conversely, even if Real Madrid makes up one point in the next four matches, Barcelona can still win the title by defeating Real Madrid at El Clásico and overturning the disadvantage from the first match, when they lost 1-2.
If this scene becomes reality, it will go down in LaLiga history. Real Madrid has clinched the league title at El Clásico only once. It was in the 1931-32 season, when they drew 2-2 at Les Corts to take the crown. That was 94 years ago. Nearly a century later, Barcelona could now secure the title on the same stage.
