Son Heung-min (34, LAFC) is rewriting MLS history.
On the 5th (Korean time) at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, United States, LAFC earned a 6-0 routing in the sixth round of Major League Soccer thanks to Son Heung-min's one-man show of four assists. LAFC, which has five wins and one draw after the start of the season, sits atop the standings.
Son Heung-min rattled the opposing defense from the start. In the 7th minute of the first half, a sharply delivered cross from the right flank struck a defender's foot and was sucked into the goal. Officially recorded as an own goal, it was essentially a scene created by Son Heung-min's sharp attack.
It was a 'Son Heung-min show.' He directed the attack by recording four assists in the first half alone. In the 20th minute of the first half, he threaded an accurate pass to Denis Bouanga, who was making a run, for the first assist. Just three minutes later, Son Heung-min again delivered a decisive pass to Bouanga, creating an additional goal.
Son Heung-min's feet did not stop. In the 28th minute of the first half, he once again provided Bouanga with a perfect chance, completing a hat trick. All three of Bouanga's goals started from Son Heung-min's passes.
The finish was perfect too. In the 39th minute of the first half, Son Heung-min completely broke down the right flank and delivered an accurate pass into the box, and Sergio Ballesteros finished it as the fifth goal.
Son Heung-min recorded a staggering four assists in the first half alone. Including the induced own goal, he was involved in five goals by himself.
Four assists in a single half is the second major record in MLS history. Lionel Messi set the record for most assists when he provided five assists in the second half against New York Red Bulls in 2024.
MLS commented, "Son Heung-min has recorded 10 assists in official matches in 2026 since returning from the South Korea national team call-up. That is the leading number in league assists. Son Heung-min, who played for Tottenham, is focusing more on assists than his own goals this season."
